and the week before that, and the week before that, and the month before that,
and the year before that. ie I don't think anyone reads the faq until they
get "yelled" at.

Possible addition to the ShadowRN FAQ, Part II, Section 2:

*********
X. Why should I bother reading this FAQ?

Well, if you don't (and it's pretty obvious that you are, at least
in part), chances are you'll end up posting a question to the list
which has already been answered so many times that it became
classified as a Frequently Asked Question, and has been answered
here in this FAQ. This will cause a number of people to respond
with answers such as "Read the FAQ," "It's in the FAQ," and
even
"What kind of a moron doesn't read the FAQ?"

It may even spark a conversation about /exactly/ what kind of moron
doesn't read the FAQ. Legend tells us of other, long-dead mailing
lists, in which this topic became such a point of deliberation as
to totally drive out any discussion related to the original purpose
of the mailing list, eventually taking up so much bandwidth that
hundreds of systems worldwide crashed from the influx of mail.

Also, it makes you look like a dork.

Might I suggest replacing "dork" with "butthead"

But remember, kids, a dork-replacement is a delicate operation -
don't try this one at home!

Maybe the subject-line for the FAQ should be changed. Instead of
just "ShadowRN FAQ (Part I)", how 'bout something more along the lines
of:
"Read this, dumbass."

Just a thought...

Hey, let's set up a mailing list for Those Who Don't Read The FAQ :) That
way only those interested would have to be bored with posts like this one...

Y'know, I hadn't actually planned on including that section in the
FAQ, but the more I think about it the better an idea it seems. What do
y'all think? (Simple yes/no answers should be EMailed to me privately;
any discussion should be okay on the list.)

Excellent idea! We can embed the address for the real ShadowRN list within
the FAQ (and without listing it in the TOC, either... so they really have
to read it. :) )

Okay, the motion has been seconded, so let's vote. :)

As a suggestion, instead of calling the FAQ mailed to new subscribers
"ShadowRN FAQ Part I," give it a title that doesn't imply it's a FAQ, but
appears to be a message from the list about some SR-related topic. And then
put that bit about reading the FAQ first, even before the header. That way,
most people would at least look at the message, and read the bit about
reading the FAQ :) Of course, it wouldn't work for everyone who's on the
list _now_ as they'll all see through the trick after they've read _this_ :)
