Hi all.

SINless mentioned his right to discuss about everything and anything
that's SRish. That's okay. However, in my opinion, laser weapons (at
least those which everyone can slug around) are definitely
non-cyberpunk and definitely non-SR. Lasers remind me of Star Wars or
Star Trek (Scott me up, Beamy), and these series have not even the
slightest touch of despair and mystery that a cyberpunk or
cross-genre cyberpunk game like SR must have (in my opinion). Hey,
cyberpunk was meant to be dirty, low-down, rotten and dangerous.
Don't bring the taste of Captain Kirk or Picard and all the other
shmoes in here.

Blasters in SW and Phasers in ST are pretty clean. If a RL
laser were used against a flesh target it could have two
effects. If a sustained low damaging beam was fired at
someone it would result in a pretty ugly burn and a lot of
screaming. If a short high powered laser was fired and hit
it would result in an mess as the water in the tissues
vaporized into steam and expanded with explosive force. If
you've got a sustained high powered laser... well, just
make sure you bring the squeegy and a lot of bactine.

Why not? Once you've been on this list a bit longer you'll find that just
about anything is getting discussed here, whether directly related to SR
or not -- it's just that the *main line* of discussion is about SR, but it
branches off to a lot of other topics regularly. Just wait a few days and
they'll die out soon enough...
