Hya all,

Hey, I was just wondering, are there many married ShadowRunners?
Yes, I know it's a silly question, but it'd make for a few funny situations,
right? Has anyone ever played a married 'runner?

Oh yes, very much so...actually, when you play a character long enough, and
you take them through the entire gauntlet of possibilities, marriage does come
along...

Binder is/was/is again....(same woman)
Mike has two different character that are married to each other (talk about
wanting a self-help session... ;)
Another player in the games, oh hell, two other players in the games have or
have had married characters. The troll physad former porn-sim star is married
to an ex-MET2000 magician...the Human Mercenary turned magical adept is
married to the current Lt. Governor of Seattle (he's formerly of Lone Star
btw).

Yes, it can be fun...

Hmm... Married to an imaginary spouse, created from scratch? Yes, of
course, I think everyone did that once. Married to another runner played
by a member of the group? Hmm, in Vampire:TDA, yeah (I highly recommend
female players for that part :) I don't know, but being married to a guy,
seems, you know, weird.). In TT Shadowrun? Haven't tried it but...

Most of the regulars on the Undernet #Shadowrun channel have "matched" up,
either hooking up or outright marrying each other. There's even one
couple who retired together. Real freaky for hardcore runners, who have
to take into account personal feelings... No use calling that rigger "a
fraggin' bitch" when you know Big Troll Boyfriend will bash your head in.
But it does add something to the games, another level, deeper than the
usual professional relationships most groups have.

BTW. Buy the new Pearl Jam! Greatest PJ record yet! I swear to God!

Personally, I've never PLAYED a married runner, but as a GM, I've had the
unique experience of playing several of their spouses!

Both the main players in my campaign are married Bull to his wife Marie, and
Johnny 99 to several ... odd ... women (Mantids?)

As another poster mentioned I definately reccomend letting a female player
handle any romantic personal interaction between husband and wife!
Sorry, I just have a serious hang-up about getting romantic with Bull!
Those of you who have seen the big lug can certainly understand! ;-)
And lest you think I'm the only one, we actually TRIED to RP an encounter
beween Bull and Marie.
He looked deep into my eyes and said "Tinner, I think I'm going to throw
up." ;-)

So from then on we pretty much just handled the intimacy between characters
"off camera."

Another aspect we've had a lot of fun with is twisting the traditional role
of marriage in the Sixth World.
With the current preponderance of "alternate lifestyles" running high, I can
imagine that there would be a LOT more in 2058.
Johnny 99 has been "involved" with several women, and actually live with two
for a while as a husband-wife-wife threesome.
We've looked at what happens when a hulking brute of an Orc tries to take an
attractive human woman to dinner at a nice restaurant, giving a very real
look at racism to or group.

Using these relationships in our game has really opened up a new level of
RP for our troupe, and I'd reccomend any GM give it a try.

For your own benefit ...just don't go making eyes at Bull. ;-P
Ick. Ick. Ptoo! ;-)

Not yet, but my main char is preparing the wedding atm, and another has the
possibility if things don`t go wrong.
That would then make two of mine, maybe this months.
And I`m looking forward to it.

As a matter of fact, yes. I have a character that was married in
game. He is an Anglo mage who was hired to do some work for a rather
small Yakuza family. One of the Oyabun's "guards"(his nephew) was sent
to make sure us Geijin did the job right. Through no fault of
Johnny's(my mage), the Oyabun's nephew got geeked. Johnny and his group
managed to bring the body back to the Oyabun. The Oyabun thought this
gester honorable, and told it was Johnny's "duty" to replace the fallen
soldier. Johnny had been flirting with the Oyabun's niece- the owner
of a small Talismongering shop- and so the Oyabun arranged a wedding(of
sorts), and now Johnny works exclusively(natch) for that Yak clan. One
of the best chances I had to spread my characters wings. And please, no
flames for the validity of the actions of the Yaks- I was not the GM :)
Having a wife makes a great sub-plot. The Johnson can't give the
character enough money? Then he'll find an alternative... incentive.
It also is a great device if the spouse has no idea the what the runner
does for a living...

Actually when one of the players in my campaign was making a new charactor
he decided on an older dwarf that had been married twice and is now
divorced. I pointed out that a cool reason for running the shadows would
be that he got divorced and didn't want to pay alimony or child support so
he hired a good decker to nuke his SIN and dropped into the shadows. The
player didn't really like this idea but I thought it was cool.

MnJ

P.S. I'm not saying this a good idea in real life but hey Shadowrun is a
Role Playing game.

Exactly. In every character I make for an RPG, I tend to throw in one
trait that I really don't have IRL. I'm currently playing a Malkavian in a
Vampire campaign whose derangement is paranoia... he doesn't trust anyone,
not even his friends, not even the people he should trust, not even the
people he *has* to trust. Roleplaying is mostly about having fun and
telling interesting stories, and odd (even unpleasant) details can make it
more fun. :)

****Uhu... on another note, have you ever tried to play _yourself_.... I've
tried it myself with AD&D, and it worked both good and bad... I could put
some points of my personality in the characters, but, imagining myself in a
6th level thief was kinda hard... since I don't have the skills myself...
And, if you play the character you might even discover things about
yourself... good or bad, I dunno....

I've played married runners, i've played devorced runners, i've played
runners with kids.
All have been strange experences. The amount of care and protective feelings
you dump on a fictional character is amaising in my eyes.

As an OT, i had a mage take an aprentice in an AD+D campain a few years back
who fell so madly in love with her that he gave her half his magical
protective items(the BETTER half) for her safty, only to have her run off. He
scowered the earth for her till he found out the evil plot, ect..

Yep ... I've had three sets of married character's in my playing history so
far ... and I have played them all even when they were married ... and even
when they were pregnant too (though somehat carefully ... I hope) ...

1. Rose and Roland ...
2. Veil and Binder ...
3. Herc and Passion ...

And it has led to some interesting situations ... for instance, Passion and
Herc decided to have a kid ... conception occured then Passion went to the
team doc and find out some more information about bearing a child to term ...
when she found out about the part dealing with labor she decked Herc, giving
him a nice shiner, and was pissy with him for a couple of days ...

Keith, as for that self-help session ... you may need one too ... considering
some of the things that have happened in the game ... though even they were
enough to cause me to consider the self-help sessions rather seriously too ...

I rarely play, but there's a married PC in my current campaign.
One of the first runs I ever ran the players through was Total Eclipse, and
they ended up at the Pink Pitbull. They fell in love with it, and it's been
the runner's bar through 3 campaigns now. Well, when generating characters
for this campaign, one of the players (who loves playing oddball characters
like mute Nachtmachen assasins) decided to pump one of his contacts up
to the highest level. The contact: Bertha the Busty Troll(TM), main
live action attraction at the Pink Pitbull, and he interpreted the level
of contact as marriage.....

Oooh, this sounds like a very good idea *EGMG* Now we're talking AD&D, one
of the players had a 'nice' political marriage... Let's say marruing to a
higly inflammable Phoenix priestess isn't a nice idea if you're not
absolutely sure she likes it too... *S*

Not really. Most poeple like the fast-living charcters that *may* have a
boy/girlfriend (funny how rare that is), but isn't being married much to
un-cyberpunky? :)

> Yes, I know it's a silly question, but it'd make for a few funny situations,

Well, I had to play the wife (being the GM) and I must say it was really
funny (damn, I was so good, it scared me! ;)). The problem is that if your
"better half" isn't a runner too, they get pissed really soon. All the
killing and fighting, corps wanting your hoop, the Star kicking in your
door, the psychos you deal with, the constant fear...

Oh, I remeber the 'conversation' between on of the runners and his wife (NO
runner). Imagine two long-haired, black wearing guys (me looking rather
normal. Compared to Christian, wo wears black leathers and ammo-belts)
discussing the way thier relationship should carry on. (ROTFL doing so...)
Damn, was that good. We skipped the "bedroom-scene", though...;)

As an aside, one of the most enjoyable characters i have played goes by the
name of Virtuoso.
A split personality, single parent, former world class fencer, phys ad with
a 17 year old daughter who constantly gets into trouble and a wife gone to
the grave who's death he constantly has to try to get to grips with.

He he he.
He was cool.

Of course, i think i might have gone a bit OTT on problems.

Who knows?
