Anyone out there who's got the TT sourcebook could you tell me if it
mentions the Tir's armed forces, navy in particular. Reason is I'm trying to
smuggle some runners in-country and instead of the bog standard T-Bird run,
I thought maybe from the sea instead.

The Tir is a more isolationist/closed country so that'll probably be
reflected in what they have. They wont project power through naval forces so
no battleships or carriers.

I see them as having a brown water navy more centred on shore patrol and
defence than force projection. Frigates and smaller ships for ASW
and customs patrols. Diesel/current version subs and a slight possibility of
nuke subs for coastal patrols and to help detect under sea smugglers.
Possibly even a limited SOSUS type system in their territorial waters as a
backup as they're fairly paranoid.

Does this sound feasible? Anyone with a background in this feel free to chip
in, I remember a Navy thread a little while back.

Hang on, does TT even have a coast? I can't remember now. I've just gone
straight 48 hours finishing off college work for final deadline and I can't
get to my books or fully remember.

So, first question is does TT *have* a coast that needs a navy, and if so,
then does anyone have any ideas?

Cheers in advance for any help. I'm off to sleep for 24 hours so there's no
rush in getting any answers back.

Nope, it doesn't really mention the Tir military. But since this was in the
"the Tirs are better at EVERYTHING" era we can count our blessings on that.

I'm assuming you have already looked at the smuggling rules/notes in Target:
Smugglers Havens?

Yup.

Since really they siezed whatever Oregon had for naval assets (which
logically would have been moved away when the AmerInds took over anyways)
they would have had to buy all their equipment from either Atzlan or from
Europe/SWA. Given that in the SR timeline the Russians and Chinese are even
worse off then in our own dimension it stands to reason the Tirs could get
ahold of whatever naval assets they wished and then upgraded them with their
super-duper-elite tech industry.

Most likely their naval forces are designed primarily for interdiction (keep
people away from the country). This means that they will use primarily
fairly small but mobile ships and likely deploy a large number of
flarecrafts for high speed interdiction and antipiracy. The largest vessels
will probably top out with destroyer class vessels armed with long range
SSMs.

Sensor coverage will likely be conducted via various high-endurance
dirgibles, both radar and sonar. Given previous canon and capabilities I
would suspect that they have deployed an sonar network out to (and probably
beyond) their territorial waters. Avenues of likely submersible infiltration
will have additional sensor platforms installed or even diesel-electric
hunter-killer subs prowling around with a shoot first, question the remains
later, attitude.

Shore defenses should be quite heavy by scattered since oregon does not have
large areas of coastline useful for amphibious landing. Since few forces
could mount such an undertaking these defenses are probably light on fixed
emplacements and rely on unmanned sensors, drones, and quick reaction
forces.

I should start that up again, Paul is more qualified then I am to answer
naval questions and Jon can also chime in.

It's in what was Oregon so yes ;)
