/
/ The OT crap may or may not have been the reason that Mike left, but it is
/ *SURELY* the reason that a great many people get fed up and leave this list.
/
/ ALL: I've signed up for and then dropped this list about six times in the
/ last two years. I'll read it for a little while, get sick of all the OT
/ silliness, and then get back off. When reading in digest form, as many
/ people do, it gets really tiring to skip through discussions of Gurth's
/ stairs, people's nicknames, an individual character stats and why they're
/ completely wrong, and the like. Largely, not being into huge magical
/ debates or giving a wiz about handgun calibers, it seems like the best
/ thing the list does for me is alert me to when new sourcebooks come out.
/
/ Folks, if you can do it in e-mail, or if we won't care about it (and trust
/ us, we probably won't care about what your sister's boyfriend's cousin did
/ last week), then don't send it to the list!!!

But, this list is a community. We all respect the need to try and
stay on topic (go Shadowrun :) but this list is also a place were
people hang out (hello lurkers). Every now and then you've got to
color outside the lines. Otherwise this list would be borrrring,
with a capital B.

If someone has been going off topic to much, IYO, ask them to back
off. If they really have been running off at the mouth then Dvixen
or Adam will jump right in. If they don't, email them and wake them
up :)

I don't expect this list to be 100% Shadowrun, and I don't want it to
be. 98% Shadowrun and 2% OT would be nice, IMHO :)

Mike who? If you mean Mike Mulvihill, he's the Dark Lord on High.

On this list, "Mike" is usually used to refer to Mike Mulvihill, the
Shadowrun line developer at FASA. He was on the list about a year ago but
had to leave because he didn't have enough time to both read the list
_and_ work on SR.

Hey leave me alone. I think Mike has plenty up his sleeve for Gron's razor
"dumps" (politically correct :-( ) Everyone is allowed a little ignorant
question here and there.

I am the first to admit that the list draws me back because of the
personalities of its members. I feel like I know a whole lot of people here,
people I'll never meet and whom with I've not so much as exchanged an e-mail.

But it's kinda like reading a sourcebook, with all of the Shadowland
comments included (Yes, this is a desperate attempt to get back on topic)--
sometimes there's several pages of rules and the like with the occasional
comment, and sometimes a drekload of chitchat with a rule every third page.

So the 98% rule is a good one, and it's probably pretty close to reality.
Maybe it's the (sometimes) glaring quality of the 2% that make it seem so
much bigger.

Yep, I feel the same way. I can't believe I can get warm and fuzzy
about some words on a computer screen :)

But overall it's a pretty damn good sourcebook. Ya just gotta learn
to flip past the pages you don't like :)

What? You don't like vegemite & peanut butter sandwiches? ;)

Seriously though. If the OT% exceeds your limit just post to the
list asking the offenders (nicely, of course) to back off. We're a
pretty reasonable group and most every request to cut the chatter
I've seen has worked pretty well. The ones that didn't work were of
the, "Shut the hell up!" variety (which briefly increased the OT%).

Another trick is to learn to delete by subject. For example, I'm not
to fond of the ammo/gun threads. When one of them starts up I just
start hitting the delete key when I see the subject it's under. The
people participating in the discussion are happy, I'm happy, and
everyone else.. well, I hope everyone else is happy :)

Oh well. Back to Shadowrun! :):):):)
