JUNE 23, 2003 (SEATTLE) — Today, The Topps Company, the trading
card, collectibles, and confectionary company, announced it is
acquiring Wizkids, LLC (“WizKids”), a privately held designer and
marketer of collectible strategy games, headquartered in Bellevue,
Washington. WizKids’ current games include Mage Knight, HeroClix,
and MechWarrior, all of which utilize collectible miniature figures
with a patent-pending “combat dial” that encodes relevant game

Anyone have any idea how this might affect Shadowrun (RPG). I'm not
too worried about Duels.

To the best of my current understanding there will be no changes with the
WizKids/FanPro relationship.

I think that there could be a problem in that Topps probably knows as
little about the Gaming Industry as Hasbro. Although Hasbro has always
been a game company, they have shown little understanding concerning
the RPG industry and market.

I see this as a horrible move for Wizkids. And, I have to wonder just
how much money did they throw at Jordan and friends to do this.

Which is why WizKids will still be managed by the same staff.
