This is an example:
What's being said: (In a language your character doesn't understand)
"I would hope that someone of your particular ethnic background
wouldn't desire to join our club due to the unneccessary stress it's
requirements might pose to you."
What Translation tells the mage he just said:
"We don't like your kind here, you might as well not join our club
or we'd have to make things difficult for you."
Notice how tact vs. translation can have a very distinct effect?
Conveying the intent of the message does not always require tact, take
from a self-proclaimed expert of tactlessness... ]:-)

It means you have an increased cognitive ability. You can analyze
information more efficiently (not necessarily faster). Because of this
efficiency you tend to notice more details, you tend to be a little
quicker in your ability to make stressful decissions, you tend to have an
easier time learning and retaining new information.
