what you MUST resist is the urge to create a dungeon full of
monsters and death traps. If you wanna do that, play AD&D.
This is ment to be a realistic world, so security is going to be
like normal life scaled up a little.
Go on a walk in your average city center... (i'll use
wolverhampton and Stourbridge as examples)
See those TV cameras on the rooftop to watch the traffic?
And the ones in the shops that watch out of the doors to spot
peaple going in and out?
And the ones with the spotlights that only glow reddishly?
THATS the first level of security.
In SRII, those cameras can watch the crowds day and night, wired
to image recognition software to spot wanted faces, and to
capture the image of someone as they commit a crime.
This gives the police a Big Brothers eye view of the street...
If you want it scary, do you see all the public ViewPhones(tm)?
They all have cameras in them , and they can feed to the police
computers as well.On Street corners, in bars, shopping malls, etc

Getting Paranoid yet?
Then theres your pocket or wrist phone...they always broadcast
their ID signal, even on standby. So they can look at the phones
in an area, check the owners ID and they've got your name. And
SIN And address. All the ID the phones registered to.
Leave it at home when you go somewhere you shouldn't. Otherwise
the cops'll be waiting at your home.

Then the companys...they'll have cameras watching the streets
and plazas around there buildings. Maybe even tie in with the
police grids.

The SECOND level of security is the secret, hidden stuff.
Raised flowerpots and rose beds that can stop TANKS getting past
Glass doors that open automatically, as they weigh a ton
(reinforced frame and 2" armourglass). They slide in grooves in
the floor so they can lock in place.
Pairs of Revolving Doors, one after another. Armourglass, with
slight positive pressure. As good as an airlock .The doors can
lock to trap peaple, and the area between the two sets of doors
is a killing zone for security.Riot gas, tazer nets, stun
bullets let off in there can't miss as there is nowhere for them
to GO. And the sensors to spot you.
Sniffers for explosives. Fluoroscopes and Magnetic Anomily
detectors for metal.visual and vocal to ID you.And a mage gone
astrial to watch for spells, and assense for cyberware by
looking at your aura.
The second Kill Zone is Reception/lobby area.Nice decor, plants,
a fountain or sculpture.Gloves off in here. Concealed firing
port weapons, manned by high skill personell. armoured Blast
doors for the Elevators and stairs.TV cameras, some obvious,
some concealed, some out of the visible range. Ultra sound
imaging of the whole lobby. Air density meters to detect air
currents and displacement (the invisable).Shock weapons built
into floor and walls to stop you taking cover.
Fire fighting systems that can fill the place with choking,
smothering gas or foam.
Spirits and elements to watch the place, at a higher force than
the PCs have.Algea and microscopic life in water pipes to make
the walls solid to the astrial.
And security troops with good weapons and the skill to use them

NEVER TRY A FRONTAL ASSAULT

CHOPPER
comin atcha!
at the speed of a thousand gazelles.

Sounds a whole lot like a pretty interesting chapter in a novel called
"EARTH" in the chapter there is talk about how all the elderly people have
electronic spying devices and are constantly keeping an eye on everyone
else. Didn't finish the novel but was pretty neat to that point.
