In the SR2 main book, trolls are stated as having dermal plating
(1) naturally. Is this bonus to body addedd into the +5 racial
modifier already, or is it just like the cyberware. Some GMs I've talked
to take the dermal plating to be already in the racial modifier, and if a
troll wants to get dermal plating cyberware, dermal (2) would only give a
+1 cybered modifier because the troll is already considered to have dermal
(1). Don't flame me if it's obvious. >

Well, here's my angle....hope it helps:
I say that the 1 Dermal Armor that Trolls get is just
that..._ARMOR_. I consider this to be a composite Ballistic 1/Impact
1 Armor (so the Troll still gets protection even when naked (though
just the SIGHT of a naked Troll would make most enemies run away blind
and ranting wildly.) I say this for many reasons:
1: Look on pg. 235 of SRII under "Average Metahumans". If you'll
notice, the "average" metahuman is just someone with all 3's and their
modifiers added (i.e. Dwarves have all 3's except a 4 WILLPOWER (+1
willpower), 5 STRENGTH (+2 strength) and 4 BODY (+1 Body). Trolls
have an average Body of _8_. This denotes that they get ONLY the
original +5 to Body.
2: The average Troll also has a special Body attribute: 8/1. Now, if
you look on pg. 232 of the Critters section, and read the info on
Body, it states that if a Body rating is succeeded by a / and a #,
then that number serves as composite ballistic/impact armor.
3: All of the modifiers by race balance out to +3. If the Dermal
Armor that Trolls get added an additional +1 (+6 overall) it would not
balance out!

Well actually the way I interpret Troll Dermal Armour is that
Troll's automatically get Dermal 1, no cost. However I rule that this
means they _cannot_ get either Orthoskin or a higher level of Dermal
Armour, they are stuck with just Dermal 1.

Trolls have 1 point of dermal armor. This adds 1 to body, in terms
of weapon strikes etc. This does not add to pathogen/toxin resistance rolls.
