I have always liked the adjusted weight rules in the TSS "How much did you
say he weighed?" (sorry the authors name escapes me at the moment) I was
going through rigger three when I asked my self, "How in the bloody heck do
trolls ride in these vehicles?" I then answered, "Well passenger weights are
not taken into account (except in unusual cases like sasquatches, see SR3)."
To skip the rest of my conversation with myself, a 1500 lb troll would make a
significant impact on a vehicles load (not to mention shocks!). But this is
not taken into account. I wondered if anyone else who uses those rules has a
solution? According to rigger 3, a reinforced seat to hold a 1500 lb
passenger would cost 6500, not to mention 8 CF and reducing the load as well.
If we say that you have to adjust the load, there are many vehicles are
unable to carry a troll. 1500 lb is about 680 kg. Browse through the
vehicle listing in the back of Rigger 3 and count the number of vehicles that
can carry a troll. Now I realize this is a slightly larger than average
troll, but not the biggest possible troll, not to mention giants and cyclops.
So I would think by 2060 they have found a better solution than hauling
trolls around in heavy transports and pickup beds. I would think just the
possibility of a complaining troll would be enough!

Well,

The biggest thing is that a troll weight 680kg is one humogus troll. The
average adult troll only weighs 225kg (SR3 pg 47). But weight is taken into
account for vehicles, thats why you have to get reinforced seating for some
metahumans.

Which is a ludicrously low weight for a creature that size... Just by doing
some simple math you can see that a troll should weigh a lot more -- scale
up a human by a factor 1.5, and body weight increases by 1.5^3. Assuming a
human male weighs 80 kg, that'd mean the troll male would weigh 270 kg.
However, that doesn't take into account the increased strength ofbones,
muscles, and so on necessary to keep a body that size in its proper shape.

The TSS articles about weight put much more realistic numbers on metahuman
weights, and I would certainly recommend you take a look at them next time
you need to know a(n N)PC's body weight.

And it works if you stick to FASA's numbers. But using the more realistic
TSS values, things don't make sense anymore. My advice would be to simply
subtract 100 kg from any passenger's weight, and then subtract the
resulting number from the vehicle's Load rating -- for example, a 500 kg
troll would reduce the vehicle's Load by 400 kg. That is problematic for
many cars, and just about all motorcycles, certainly...

So what you're saying is that as a GM you wouldn't allow my troll ganger
to zip around town on a Dodge Scoot? Not even for the comic value? ;-)
