I tried making a troll shaman once, and actually managed tomake him, but he
was pretty weak to start. The penalties they get, compounded by the fact
that Priority A and B are taken up already, leaving your cash, skill, and
attributes in the lurch makes it darn near impossible. I made him, but gave
him up quickly as a lost cause...

AS you can see by my sig, I played troll deckers (that was before AND
after VR2.0 came out). In fact, I played two of those. The first as a
regular NPC and the other as a PC. They were both fun. althoug they have
it a little rougher than other races (low intelligence, which began
affecting him after vr2).

Get some nuyen to buy an encephalon and a cerebral booster. That
should more than even the odds. With a possible 11 Body, Black IC will
have a tough time with him/her. Of course, you could through in some
allergies to boost up any attributes or skills that are low in the
beginning...

NoOOOOOOOO, that's not true! Give 'em a chance, boys!

I'm into roleplaying since 1984, and while in the early days I kinda
"competed" with my players, I have learned that playing with the PCs
is the real fun. One player of mine did just the same you did, he
played a troll shaman. He *did* have extreme penalties sometimes, and
he started with not much more than dirt under his fingernails, but he
had fun! Why? Because he really identified wit the character, and
because I let him go with that!

I think you didn't give your troll (may he RIP) a real chance.
That, or your GM was the kind of rules-lawyer and joy-killer every
*role*player hates. Sob. Sob. Sob.

You're right, I didn't really give him a chance... But it was my second
attempt to make a character, coming two and a half years after I'd made my
first, and I was still playing that character in another campaign...:) I've
learned quite a bit about char creation since then, and could probably make
a much more playable one now, stat wise...

And the main reason, though, that I didn't really play him was that it
wasn't what I was really looking for in a character... And he didn't have
the numbers to convince me to keep him... I ended up going with a human
mage instead named Chaos, who has a penchant for fireballs, flashy
illusions, and glttery, star covered robes with a tall, pointed, floppy
Fizban style hat...:) He's fun, but just a bit insne...:)
