I can agree with you to a point.

I agree that there may be a disproportionate
number of trolls in the shadows as compared
to the light but I disagree as to your reasons.

I think that Metahuman prejudice is more likely
to be at the root of it all and the associated
socio-economic realities. I would imagine that
there are a larger number of Trolls in menial
physical jobs like labouring and factory work
that involves heavy lifting. I can see that there
would be very few white collar trolls as opposed
to blue collar. I can see that the general hysteria
after the night of rage has meant that many
trolls live in poorer areas and that they can
have difficulty in getting an adequate education
and that their job prospects are limited. I think
that this is more likely the reason that many
of them, as a minority, resort to gangs and
crime to get by. I think then that it may very well
be a natural progression to the shadows for the
survivors but I still think that trolls should be as
rare as their population statistic. This goes to
enhance how special they are as a PC race.
I.E. a runner group with more than say two
trolls should be a rarity and very, very special
in the shadows.

I can see your point but partially disagree. I have
difficulty in getting clothes to fit. I'm 201cm tall and
weigh about 125Kg. I'm bigger than an average Ork
but smaller than a troll (but much better looking).
I can still get a decent job without resorting to
crime....but then again I don't have tusks and
horns coming out of my head and a reputation for
being able to rip limbs from their sockets. I wonder
if next time I go for a promotion that I should mention
that I _could_ do this when I'm unhappy :) On the up
side my size made playing American Football
a lot of fun :)

Get medieval? You mean, be cold, wet, miserable, poorly-educated, smelly,
with a short lifespan, bad teeth and no concept of personal hygiene?

No thanks.

Hey you've just perfectly described most of
the "Vampire" players in Brisbane :)

Might want to change that statement to "Hey, you've just perfectly
described 'Vampire' players." \=)

Odd, WW players in the states are all Goth kids eating cold Spam out of the
can in their rooms while trying to look dark and mysterious. :-)

Have I mentioned lately that generalizations like this one are inaccurate
and annoying?

First, a personal favor: Please call me Patrick. My mother and my
grandmother call me Pat, but when people I don't really know, outside of my
immediate family, start calling me Pat, I get...twitchy.

And to answer your question: Yep. Not very much or very often, but that's
because I try to avoid the Goth crowd you mention above. But I do play on
occasion, as do most of the players in my SR group, and none of us fit the
description mentioned above. I don't even like Spam.

(Caveat: Yes, there are some goofy-looking pictures of me on my
[badly-in-need-of-updating] web site, http://user.arn.net/~remo/ for those
of you who are curious, but they're mostly atypical. Mostly.)

Let's see; three of the people in my group like different WW games. Two of us
Mage and one Vampire.

None of them fit any of those descriptions.
Of the two who like Mage one is married the other has a live in SO. Both are
socially active people who have no goth affectations to them. One (myself) is
a dabbling occultist who likes the paradigms concept and the other just likes
the setting.
The Vampire player does wear mostly black and his eastern european features
do make him look naturally tall and dark with an accent that certainly helps.
But he's not anti social and doesn't go in for the makeup and all.

The one goth I do know who does wear all the makeup, leather, black, skirts
and so on is my younger brother and he's highly socially active, on his way
to attend college as a physics major, listens to punk, has had a steady girlfriend
for the last two or three years, and is a very polite and charming sort. I just
look at him and figure that when I was that age I was in hippie threads hanging
out with barefoot women at anti-military rallies. so... it 's just one generation's
thing for another.

The statement 'all WW players' or 'all LARPer' works about as well as the statement
'All those SR freaks'. In a hobby this small we'd be better off not internally
going after each other.
