Actually, the CalFree State Sourcebook is the only
official book that I have (besides SRII !). I think it
is OK, but in some points is a little vague (but it is intentional,
right ?). However, isn't better to have seen a city, even 60 years
before SR facts, to describe it to a player ?
And, by the way, nobody knows where I can find a more detailed SF map ?

I agree. Decking rules aren't too great ... I think that using NPC
Decker would speed up the games, and so
I tell my player to choose street rigger, or street shaman, or some
kind of adept. At least until I'm not used to those damned Decking
rules :)

And BTW, VR2 helps to speed up decking ?
Or is "a-tons-of-rules" module ?

Thanx to all ...

According to Alberto P, at 10:02 on 29 Jun 99, the word on
the street was...

Certainly. If nothing else, you can describe sights more realistically
than when you have to make them up yourself.

> And, by the way, nobody knows where I can find a more detailed SF map ?

Not really, though you could have picked one up in SF :) (I've got a map
of Seattle from that city, for example (with thanks to NewShadow :) )

Also, if you can find it, the Cyberspace RPG (by Iron Crown Enterprises,
who also publish MERP and Rolemaster) is set in San Francisco; you might
be able to use some of its background in your Shadowrun game. The main
rulebook for Cyberspace has a map of SF in the 2090s.

Both ;) If you only have the second edition Shadowrun rulebook, take my
advice and buy VR 2.0 before you allow player character deckers. SRII
decking rules are much more complex and take longer to resolve than VR 2.0
rules.

Where do you live? In North America, AAA or CAA is a good place to
go for maps (I don't know if you can buy them, or whether you have to
be a member). Tourism California (or whatever it's called) might work,
as would a standard road atlas from your library or bookstore.

Actually, here we go. http://gocalif.ca.gov/maps/
That's got Adobe Acrobat maps, as far as I can tell.

Well, the problem is, decking can be so cool. But, yeah, the best way
to deal with something you don't know the rules for is not to deal with
it in a game - at least, not until you've got the basics down. That
shouldn't be an excuse for NOT learning the rules at all, though. One
of these days I AM going to learn how to run deckers. :)

As someone said, it's a bit of both. It HAS a ton of rules - but if
it's done right, it's still a lot better than the SRI and SRII rules.

Probably the best idea is to read the Matrix section in SR3. Learn
that, play that, get up to speed with that. Then go start looking at
VR2. Remember, the rules in SR3 are the core of the VR2 rules, with
some changes. You can then add bits on from VR2 as you learn them.

The only thing you MIGHT want to use out of VR2 to start with are the
rules for cooking your own decks. I would. The only decks you can start
out with in SR3...well, suck. IMNSHO.
