Yo. People.
KNOCK IT OFF!!!!
This is the first time I've logged in in ~24 hours, and what do I see?
128 new messages!!!
And, in the time it takes for my LOGiN.COM (rc.local for all you unix users) to
load, 4 MORE COME IN!
(And in the time it took to type this, ANOTHER CAME IN!)

I can only ask...
IS ANYONE SAYING ANYTHING IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO RISK SPAMMING MY ACCOUNT
BECAUSE I CAN'T LOG IN FOR 24 HOURS?? CHILL!!!!!!!

Thank you.

PS: In the next 30 seconds, all messages sent to me (note that every single
one of the 133++ is shadowrn) will self-destruct. If there was anything
profoundly interesting in there, please summarize and resubmit at a later date.

Yes. :-)

Try setting your distribution options to DIGEST, you will then get all of
the stuff in only one mailing, and save much space in header files.

MAybe you should switch to digest format, extract and print to peruse
at your leisure. I don't think people wil stop sending information out, though
I agree the more superfluous ones (such as quoting an entire message to say
"yeah, I think so too" could be cut back on.

This stunned me. It's one of the most arrogant postings I've ever seen
on the net.

Let us know if you go on holidays for a week, so we'll know to cut our posts
down correspondingly.

And I guess you can be the arbiter of what's important enough to send.

The digest idea may solve your problem; otherwise I'd suggest you get off
the list.

[Jim McPherson complains about the mailing list volume]

This is going to sound condescending but:

If you can't handle the volume, sorry. We aren't going to stop
talking; we talk for our convenience, not yours.

I believe there's a digest mode; people drowning under the messages
might want to switch to it. People on Unix systems can use a mail
filtering program instead (I use procmail; send email for details).

I wonder if he thought about the volume of useless mail he was creating by
posting that we should not post useless mail? Makes you wonder.....

I received 300 mails in one day(!!!!), and i'm not complaining.
If i subscribed all the lists where i am subscribed, it was because i wanted.
No one pointed a gun to my head and said " SUBSCRIBE THAT LIST OR I'LL BLOW YO
UR &*%^)$# BRAINS!!!".
I just also say that i was not under the influence of any kind of drugs, chips
or alchool, and i'm not also someone with mental disorders (well...maybe some.
..) or senile.

I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I have no intention of ever
"summariz[ing] and resubmit[ting] at a later date" for ANY ONE. Check the
logs, bucko, if you want to find out what you deleted out of hand. It's what
the rest of us do, and you're no different.

His point, and mine, is that if you don't have something useful to say...

If you have such a problem with the messages, why did you respond in the list?
Either drop the list or stop complaining.. no one else on the list other than
you two seem to have a problem with the way the list is going. If you don't
like the quantity of messages, switch to digest, or drop the list.. Just don't
complain and make it bad for the rest of us who enjoy reading the list.

Well geez over the weekend I ended up with 481 messages in my mailbox from my
4 (or is it 5 ) mailing lists i'm subscribed to. My only complaint is they're
all jumbled together and i haven't got my filter working yet *sigh*.
(if there's any advice about these out there I'd love to hear it)
So please chill (and stop using caps, it hurts my eyes at 4 in the morning :-)
