ExxonMobil Corp. had a greater economic value than at least 27 countries and
ranked 45th on the list of 100 top economic entities in the world, two
places ahead of General Motors Corp., the U.N. Conference on Trade and
Development reported Monday.
Countries were ranked according to gross domestic product
the sum of all goods and services produced within a country
while corporations were ranked based on "value added"
the sum of pretax profits, salaries, amortization and depreciation for the
year 2000.
The United States topped the list with a GDP of $9.8 trillion, more than
double that of No. 2 Japan. Germany, Britain and France rounded out the top
five.
UNCTAD's list of top 100 economic entities in the world includes 71
countries and 29 corporations. ExxonMobil had a value added of $63 billion,
ahead of Pakistan's GDP of $62 billion.
