In Nerps underworld it states that only one specialisation or
concentration of etiquette can be taken during character generation, (
Page 13 ) I thought etiquette was excluded for this rule, if not how do
archetypes have more than on etiquette skill in the published
books??????

Have I missed something??

Either something that was missed in editing, or FASA wanted to change
the rule. I'd say figure out which works best for your game and go
with it.

It`s stated in the main book too :-)
But I think you are reight, etiquette is an exception the other way it would
not make much sense.

Can't miss something that isn't there, and what isn't there in this case
is a rule that excludes Etiquette from the "one Concentration per skill"
rule that appears on page 70 of SRII. Technically, characters may
therefore only get _one_ Etiquette concentration, and the Detective and
Elven Decker archetypes are not 100% legal for that reason. Still, I
wouldn't worry about it too much -- if the GM allows more than one
Concentration per skill (even if it's only for Etiquette) then all's well,
isn't it?

I have a player who is wanting to know who the Organized Crime Boss in the
Seattle Downtown area is. I assume there is both Yak and Mafia in the
area? I am flipping through the Underwould Sourcebook but from the looks
of it there is no Capo right now and I see nothing about which family runs
downtown.

Currently (as detailed in "Mob War!"), there is no capo. The old capo
was killed, there is currently a Mob War (gee!) to determine who will
be the new capo. Well, I guess more accurately that there have been
several new capos, but with a very short lifespan. :-)

Wrong!!

Sorry James, but as of the release of Target: Smuggler's Havens and SR3
(so, late 2059, early 2060 or so), Maurice the Butcher Bigio is the new
Capo of Seattle. I don't know who runs downtown itself - I don't think
Seattle 'territories' have ever been explicitly split up - so you can
probably decide yourself.

Oh, and if you want to see a non-canon event that may spark off a Mafia
civil war, read Sweet Oblivion at Herkimer's Lair or Winterhawk's
Magespace. (Plug plug!) I wrote it, and, like I said, it's non-canon,
but it might give you some ideas. Hell, at the very least, the heroine
is one lady who should be able to give your players nightmares. :)

Hey, I've got a good idea. DON'T ask me rules questions - I tend to
interpret rules my own way for some reason. DO ask me questions relating
to the Sixth World. Trick memory and all that.

The game I am running now is taking place in the late summer of 2057...so
does that mean there is still no Capo?

Downtown Seattle is largely run by the Finnigan Family, headed by Rowena
O'Malley. The new Don of Seattle is Maurice "The Butcher" Bigio, named by the
Commissionne to deal with the increased Yakuza aggression in the 'plex. For
the time being, the Bigio Family hasn't horned in too much on the Finnigan
operations in downtown (Bigio is based out of Tacoma), but he doesn't let them
forget that he's in charge, something that doesn't sit well with Capa O'Malley
at all, since she's pretty sure Bigio had her father assassinated. FWIW, the
Ciarniello Family runs things north of Downtown.

This stuff is also detailed in the New Seattle book, along with updates on all
the gangs and the other syndicates.

Have fun : )

And this will see the light of day when, exactly? The schedule hasn't
been all that well maintained, I'm afraid. <g>

It means James O'Malley (Rowena's father, assassinated in January 2058) is
still Capo of Seattle, and head of the O'Malley family. The Underworld
sourcebook's chapter about the Mafia should have all the info you need for
any pre-Mob War! situation.

Oh...I guess I misunderstood what the time line was because I did see it
say the late James O'Malley. I shall reread that section and see what I
missed. Thanks.

Wait a sec, I mis-remembered the date the Underworld sourcebook was
published on Shadowland. O'Malley's assassination was the cause of it
being put together (and not, as I thought this morning, that it was
published first and O'Malley got killed a little while later), so what I
said above isn't true.

I do know that the Seattle Sourcebook's section on organized crime talks
about the Mafia, though, and reading through the Underworld sourcebook and
Mob War! should give a good impression of what things were like before the
hit, however.
