I've seen the UB book once, in someone else's SR collection. I don't know
if he'd bought it new or used, but he did live in the UK so I guess
someone must have sold it there.

oh you could when it first came out, only by the time i started
playing SR it was out of print. Which meant when playing my first
game we got it dropped on us a few weeks afetr we found the quote in
SR2 and so it came to pass listing the UB as 'an international
humanitaian organisation', needless to say i was not very pleased to
discover the truth about folks we considered 'official good guys'.
Managing this on players now though is nearly impossible.

The first SR novel I read was 2XS, and that sort of gives away what the UB
really is :) Before that time, I'd not really used insect spirits in my
game, but after that they sort of became a favorite of mine *GM grin*

OTOH, once players have read (or seen) books like Bug City, they know
something's up so you can't really use the UB book anymore. I guess there
is a good side to not having a game store within 75 km after all... (even
though it's a _very_ minor one)

Nearly. I have some players who have never played before. I think I'm going
to run them through UB before they get to know about the bug threat. :)

For those who already know about bugs but haven't played UB
book... is the UB adventure set up so that it could be altered to fit
another made-up organization ?
ie. so they can play UB without possibly knowing they are, and leaving
the bug-thing a little more surprise

I still remember when FASA was talking about it at one of their
seminars (before it's release). They gave the whole Brotherhood "sales
pitch" on what the UB is all about and when it got to the end they
finished it off with, "... and if you believe that chummer" <the whole
staff joins in> "YOU"RE PLAYING THE WRONG GAME!"
The data dump was the best part of that book. When the players in my
game got ahold of a copy and read it they never felt comfortable again.
<ear2ear grin>

Ancient cultures believed that names held great power, personal
names more so and they were guarded very closely. To protect themselves,
they answered to another name, because if another discovered their real
name, it could be used against them.
History repeats itself.

The UB run was Bull's first encounter with the Bugs But far from his
last!). We ran it as one really big game session. It was also the
Bachelor Party for a buddy of ours...:)

Anyways, My character, being teh decker, got the data dump in the middle of
the run. I had to sit and read it one page at a time, as I was only able
to decode it one page at a time, while the rest of the group played on...
And I wasn't able to say anything about waht I was reading to the rest of
the party until I was done... The only thing they knew was that I was
cringig badly and cursing a lot...:):)

It really had them worried... Until I told them what was going on... Then
they were terrified...:):):)

UB is pretty big....you could duplicate it on a smaller scale, but ever
since Chicago, its harder to believe it could happen again on the same scale...

Just change the name and set them up in the same building, lots of
bits of the organisation went undercover after the second UB
adventure destroyed them, when they find flyers for both names at
'Madames place - you know:)' they should get suitably scared, and
once they have both names they can find the file, enjoy :)

I have done this to some poor PC's despite a previous group in the
campain world having done DE. Problem i'm having now with bugs is
they are spraying everything with insecticide, change of tactics
comming on before everyone loads DMSO'ed insecticide, the last queen
was force 10 energy 5 ant! quite a fight what with force 11 and 12
damaging manipulations and full atuo bursts of insecticide coated
bullets going off vs 45 dice attack skills (yes these PC's are VERY
hard, >5 million yen is some or 150+ karma in others run by organised
players some of whom really know what they are up to, very different
to the other game i'm running.) needless to say the start of next
session is adding up the docwagon bills :)
