True, but only if you know the PCs won't go chasing after these new
"leads" like the ones did in the post about the tiger... Knowing my
players, at least one or two of them would pick up on details this and
think they're important, leading to a whole evening of going after the
wrong things, follwed by complaints from the same players that "we're
getting nowhere!"

Of course, this will happen once or twice and then they'll learn that not
everything they notice is important enough to talk to their contacts
about.

Actually if they are anything like my (former) group, they would then begin
IGNORING all details, believing they are being led astray. Then they would all
look at you and wonder why they are not getting anywhere int eh adventure. :-)
