Easy question, possibly long discussion: do SR vampires give off
body heat? And is there an official source to back up the answer?

My own idea is that they would, given that they move around, and
movement requires energy which eventually gets turned into waste
heat -- but I'm sure other answers are also possible :)

Without referring back to the books, I seem to recall that SR vampires
are not undead - their bodies are still alive, and still metabolise.
Similarly, so does the magical virus responsible for the condition.
Therefore, they would emit heat.

Yes, I think that's where the confusion may be coming from (I didn't ask
the question for myself, BTW). Vampires are the result of a virus, but
is it mentioned anywhere whether this virus actually kills its victims,
and then "ressurrects" them as vampires, or if they get transformed by
the virus but remain alive?

Killing the host would leave them braindead, so that would mean that
vampires are truly undead, something that Shadowrun lacks, or the
virus itself instills sentience as well as halts decay. I think it's
safe to say that it doesn't kill its victim

The discussion of HMHVV in the SR2 main book and paranormal critters
may not state explicity, but certainly implies strongly, that the
virus forces various irreversible metabolic mutations on the victim
but leaves them alive. For the most part, the Shadowrun creators
seem to have worked very hard to leave "undead" out of the game.

I would rule that the vampire does exude body heat, though it may be
less than that of an uninfected person. The vampire's metabolism
runs much differently now, running on a fraction of the calories and
relying heavily on mana-based reactions (the Essence
loss/replenishment cycle). Conversely, I would rule that vampires
are more obvious in the astral, due to this same mana-heavy
"metabolism".

If you need actual page numbers from those SR2 books, I'll find them
when I get home from work. I'll even flip through SR1, for the sake
of completeness. :)
