During the course of my work to come up with a good set of rules for
drugs, poisons, and diseases that is realistic, I worked up a very
simple set of rules on the side.

The effect of a drug, poison, or disease (DPoD) is a simple all or
nothing proposition.

After coming into contact with the victim the DPoD rolls a number of
dice equal to it's power vs a target number of 4. The victim makes a
test using the appropriate attribute (usually Body) vs a target number
of 4. If the victim rolls more successes than the DPoD, the DPoD has
no effect. If the DPoD rolls more successes, than it takes full
effect.

So, if a character is shot with a dart containing Neuro Stun VIII, he
makes a Body(4) test and the Neuro Stun makes an 8(4) test. If the
character rolls more successes, then he stays on his feet. If the Neuro
Stun rolls more successes, then the character drops to the ground
unconscious.

Certain cyberware or magic may grant a character additional dice vs a
DPoD (see the specific cyberware or spell rules).

Often times a character may make a recovery(4) test (using an
appropriate attribute based on the DPoD) to decrease the ammount of
time that they are affected by the DPoD. The base time of effect of a
DPoD is divided by the number of successes rolled for this test.

If a character receives medical treatment (assuming the medical
community can treat the DPoD) a Treatment(4) test is made using the
rating of the medical treatment provided (this may range from the
rating of an antibiotic or antidote, to the skill of the doctor, to the
rating of the medical facility). Successes from this test are added to
the character's recovery test to determine the time of effect. If the
DPoD is not treatable by current medical technology then the character
is advised to seek magical help.

Such spells as Cure Disease and Antidote roll a test vs a 4. The DPoD
likewise makes a test vs a 4. If the spell wins the DPoD is defeated
and the effects removed. If the DPoD wins then it continues to take
it's course. A spell caster may make as many attempts as he wishes (or
the patient is willing to pay for).

In some cases the effect may be permanent and may only be countered by
medical or magic attention (for example, a disease may result in
permanent neurological damage significantly reducing the victim's
physical attributes). In most cases the medical technology of 205X can
repair, or address such permanent damage. In most cases where medical
technology cannot repair the damage, magic can be attempted (but it's
very, very expensive). A Heal spell may make a test vs a number equal
to the number of successes the DPoD rolled for it's original test.
