I thought that a VCR was incompatible with reflex enhancements like
Wired Relexes. I can't rememeber where I saw this (description of the
VCR?). What gives (either way)?

Uhhhhh. No. You jsut can't USE them together: ie using a VCR, you will not get
the bonuses of Wired Reflexes.

Just checked the SRII rulebook. They sure don't have anything like that
in it. There are a lot of things that 'are' incompatable with wired
reflexes and VCRs, but they aren't incompatable with each other that I
can find. They do two different jobs, you see.

I hope most of you caught my last rant on how Vehicle Control Rigs
function. In a nutshell, they hijack neural signals and translate and
transmit them into the vehicle's control gear. The closer to the source of
the neural impulses the better the response time, the more neural
connections have to be made, and the higher the resulting essence cost.

Well, Wired Reflexes function similarly.

Neural impulses are /slow/ compared to the speed of light. Wired Reflexes
literally bypass whole sections of the nervous system with metallic or
optical nano-wiring. Again, the more wiring into the nervous system the
faster the response time, and the greater essence cost.

So why don't they work together?

Simple, really. Wired Reflexes to some degree replaces the nervous system,
replacing connections between the brain and the rest of the body [I
honestly belive that the first Wired Reflexes systems were developed to
assist victims of diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis]. Control Rigs make
connections between the whole nervous system and the vehicle's control
gear. That's the fundamental difference, Wired Reflexes connect the body to
the brain, while VCRs connect the body and brain to something external.
They share many similarities at the fundamental level, but the application
is significantly different.
