Is it just in my group, or do others also pick vehicles for which _no_
picture is available? I have at least one player, and the others have
started following her lead, who consistently chooses a vehicle whose stats
she likes, and then picks a name from the "Similar Models" line in the
description -- so she can imagine it looks cool instead of having the
goofy Rigger Black Book pictures forced upon her character :)

Sure. As my runners tend to find themselves from the odd corners of the
world and they don't include a rigger within their numbers, they tend to
acquire their wheels locally. Usually they end up with something with heavy
"local flavour" from the local scrapyard/used cars dealership. In Seattle
they drive a Bison, though.

According to Mikko Koljonen, on Monday 25 October 2004 11:42 the word on
the street was...

That's not what I meant :) My group goes for the Similar Models because
they don't like most of the pictures for the "standard" vehicles, and so
by choosing a Similar Model, they can avoid driing a car they feel looks
silly.
