Hello, everybody,

here's another clever question for you to use up your space and time:

if a rigger/driver has to make a crashtest, speed is used to calculate
power- and damage-level of the impact. My question is: which speed?
cruising speed/top speed, or what else?
My problem with this question is, that in the sr vehicle-system I can't
find such a thing as current speed of the vehicle (hope I'm right at this
point).

so: HELP! HELP! HELP ME!

and please, I'm a newbie to this list, so show mercy
Stefan

When I'm right, the rules (somewhere in RBB or SRII) say, that the
player has to choose his speed on his own. CruisingSpeed is only
a game mechanic that is used to determine how much distance
a vehicle will cover, it has to calculated according to the
results of the Position Test. TopSpeed (second number) only gives
the maximum speed of that vehicle. So your current speed has
nothing to do with how far you get. But when a vehicle CRASHES, then
you have to use the Speed the player stated as his current speed
to figure out the Power of the CrashTestDamage.
GM should consider that a character can't drive at any speed
he wishes, because of other vehicles (traffic in cities), bad roads,
etc. . This is just what I reproduce from my memory, but right now
I go to look it up, please forgive me if the above is nonsense
(but I got a memory regarding rules ...).Hope this helps.

It`s nice to have someone NEW one the list, especially if he
is from the same country.

Thanx for your precious time, Stefan Willkofer

We had this problem once and you can basically linear interpolate between the
cruising speed and top speed and get the damage as a function of the current
speed, whatever the rigger's going at... Sorry about the math... I'm an
engineering graduate student and we can't help those sort of things.

Off the top of my head, I believe you have to use Cruise speed. At least,
in a combat turn.
