How do you figure the vertical leap of a character and would the adept
ability of great leap increase your vertical jump?

I ask a similar question on rec.games.frp.cyber and here is the answer
:

Page 47 of SR3C

Jumping
Characters may make two kinds of jumps: a running jump and a
standing
jump. If a character is jumping vertically, treat it as a standing
jump.
For running jumps, use the distance the character wishes to jump
(in
meters) as the target number for an Atheletics Test. Apply any
appropriate
modifiers. Only one success is needed to achieve the jump. The
maximum
distance for a running jump is equal to the character's Quickness in
meters.
For standing horizontal jumps and vertical jumps, make an
Athletics Test
against a target number equal to twice the distance in meters the
character
wishes to jump. A single success indicates a successful jump. The
maximum
distance for these jumps is equal to the character's Quickness divided
by 3 in
meters.
If a character is attempting to jump as far as he or she can, make
an Open
Test using the Athletics and divide the high roll result by 2 (for a
running
jump) or 3 (for a standing jump). That number is the distance the
character
has managed tojump in meters (round down). The maximum distance for
these
jumps is equal to the character's Quickness in meters.
Characters attempting to jump without Atheletics Skill may default
to
Quickness instead of Body, at a standard +4 modifier. A failed jump or
a jump
down may result in a fall (See Falling, SR3C P. 46).

This is explained on page 47 of the Shadowrun Companion (the version
revised for 3rd edition, that is). Great Leap would add to the figures in
these rules, once you figure out what is what -- at first look there
appear to be at least five sets of rules, all intended to achieve the same
thing, intermixed in this section.
