Hello all. In the cyberdeck construction rules, it says that if you add a
reality filter, a +2 applies to tests involving the MPCP rating. Does that
apply to EVERY test, ie even with other components? Also, does that +2 apply
to the cook and install tests, or is it just a software thing?

Thanx.

It means that you construct the MPCP as if it were two rating
points higher than it actually is. For example, if you build an
MPCP-5, all the costs and times for the MPCP are based on a
rating of 7. The costs, times, and limits for the other components
(Persona programs, hardening, response increase, etc.) are based
on the _actual_ rating, namely 5 in this case.

Yuppers ... consider the +2 as being the price for having something that works
for only person in particular.

Ok, so the +2 rating would affect the coding, cook, and install tests for
the MPCP, but all of the other components that depended on the MPCP would
use its original rating.

The reason I'm asking is I'm building a web page that will automate the
process of cyberdeck design. All the viewer has to do is plug in some
numbers, and it will calculate the costs, and time needed for everything. If
anyone is interested, I can post the URL when it is finished.

Yes. One thing I forgot, though (I wasn't sure of it when I wrote
my original reply) is that the actual MPCP rating is 1 point lower
than the one you chose.

So, let's take an MPCP-5 with reality filter. Your programming and
cook times and TNs are based on a rating of 7, the actual
program size is based on a rating of 5, and with the filter
switched on you have an MPCP rating of only 4. (Switching the
filter off returns it to 5.)

I've got a Windows program that does the same thing. It's on my
web page, although the version that's there will only calculate the
off-the-shelf costs. I really should finish and post the upgraded
version that also calculates the DIY costs and times...

No, it aplies only to MPCP tests, as Gurthpointed out. Also, a reality
filter equiped deck can beused by anybody, like any deck. In fact
"Hacke house" sells fiter-equiped MPCP's. There may be a
"unfamilirity"
penalty, but VR2.0 doesn't mention any trouble when switching to decks
with diferent filters.

I will sincerly not hope it :->
No, the way I understand the rules and the mechanic of Reality Filters,
they only come into play while programming the Software for the MPCP.
(This is emulating a different interface), while the other components
are not having trouble with this emulation ( For Hardening it`s the same
kind of electric jolt, isn`t it?)
