When a physically present mage walks through a ward wearing ative foci,
the following happens.

The ward gets to do one attack against it, if this results in a D damage,
the focus suffers from overload and is rendered useless. Blown up.

You can see this happen on the primary plane.
It needs a percaeption test versus the difference in rating of the ward
and the focus. (min. of 2)

It's all in the bootlegged 'Guide to Magic'.

Yep, which means you need a rating 6 (at least) ward to actually destroy
foci. Now how do you run it if the focus isn't destroyed? Does the mnagician
and his foci get to pass through, or are they blocked from proceeding?

Hunh? What is this publication and where is it located?

Then they are fine, no damage (remember damage to items and wards
disappears after the attack is not continued) and you just go on your
way. There is a spark or two prehaps, and maybe a moment of pause, I
would say the Mage knows he walked into something.

This is a FASA product that some of use have as a beta-test. There was a
playtesting period, that is now over. The product will be out in a
couple of months.

This somewaht disagrees with the description of wards in the Grimything. It
says that the ward blocks the movement of any dual natured thing (and foci
are dual natured). Would not one of the things have to "give" before the
magician could pass through? Either the ward is destroyed and the foci pass
through, or the foci need to be turned off (or destroyed) so that the
magician can pass through.

Cool. Just how did you manage to get that job? (Sounds pretty excellent to
me! :-))

It's the Neo-Anarchists' Guide to Magic, or, as it also calls itself, the
Neo-Anarchists' Guide to the Awakened (phew!). FASA put a playtest version
on AOL and/or Genie, and some of us not on those managed to obtain a copy of
it :)
