By the way... I bought Burning Bright last Thursday (finally arrived here) and
had finished within two days. Good book.

Now to my question.

>>>>Space for those who haven't read Burning Bright
yet<<<<

In the book, the main character has an air elemental that he uses to guard the
office building while he is off running around. My question is this, is the
order to guard the building while he is gone considered a _remote_ service.
If not, then how remote is remote? The reason I'm asking, this came up
in a game I'm running and the player was trying to make the argument that this
should NOT be considered a remote request and the elemental will still be
bound after the patrol is over (if the elemental still owes services to the
mage). Any advice is welcomed.

Well, on page 141 of SR II, it says "With the exception of remote serive
(see below), the elemental must remain within line-of-sight of the mage. The
use of astral senses, clairvoyant senses, or other magical senses fulfill
this requirement, but electronic viewing does not.". With that I would say
that unless you either keep an eye on it (in one of the aforementioned
ways), then you have to class it as a remote service.
