You think the weather in Flagstaff is bad... Try the weather in Austin TX.
We have 40 degree temperature changes in matter of hours. And when you ride
a motorcycle you find yourself watching more and more weather reports.

Here in Minnesota, we've had the last three days of 80+ degree weather,
tornados, tstorms, hail.

Today it is 30 degrees and it's going to snow.

Friday is supposed to be in the 80s again.

Minnesota is Momma Nature's romper-room.

Got that right. I normally don't wear shorts, but the people on my floor
want to "change my image". so one of them lent me about $60 to get
clothes (Shorts and a shirt). But with this weather down here (For those
of you who haven't figured it out, I in the same city TFL is in) I
haven't had the chance to use them. *SIGH*

Maxim and I met in a class we took this fall. We really don't game much,
but that's becase _I_ don't game much (never enough time, and nobody
seems to want to get into a long-term campaign). We do have a campus
gaming club, and we meet monthly. I try to get there, but meetings
always seem to be on a bad day (although I WILL be there this weekend).

At least there is some change! :) Here in The DEEP South (Southern
Mississippi), we've had temps in the low 90's every day this week. Oh,
yeah, it did rain today...for about 2 whole seconds! :) After it
stopped, the temp felt like it was about 110. (Damn humidity! :)

Sure you could effect the weather hermetically. There's plenty of
precedence for it, and if you can summon elementals I should think
you could affect weather patterns. (should be easy, if you buy into
the Chaos theory butterfly-hurricane analogy; all you'd need to do
would be to tweak circumstances a little.)

And here in Minnesota today it's raining, no er shining, nice, er raining,
no hailing, no sunny, and ...wait um...drats...raining again, cold, ...sunny.
Can't wait for the grass to turn green again...raining...blue skies...sunny,
oh well...It's Minnesota, if ya don't like the weather wait 5 minutes.

p.s. The local 'real' medicne man stopped by to see if we had a good
thuderstorm yet, he wanted to be here so he could talk with it. He stayed
for a while and told me that he'd see us monday....hmmm...bet it will
thunder and lightening just before he shows up. unless he meant we were
going fishing, then it will be nice and sunny.
As far as Hermetic magic and weather...I guess you'd have to use several
elementals or one of those (gasp...oh not again...please no discussion on)
para-elementals. Air elementals wouldn't carry the water and water
elementals wouldn't travel by air. You would need a combination of forces
to create a storm. Air elementals gathering water moisture would get you a
cloud, or if they got you lots maybe a heavy fog. Water elementals
gathering air would get you ...hmmm...(if you could warm it
up....YES....YES....A hot tub spell!!!!)

The Great Ghost Dance affected the weather; sudden thunderstorms that happen
to appear where an airmobile force wants to go could have some connection
with magic :)
Apart from that, maybe yes, maybe no. In some of the sourcebooks they talk
about nature spirits or elementals being responsible for bad weather, rainy
days, sunny days, loadsathings, but who is to say it's true or not?

I am prety sure that the Tir Tairngire sourcebook addresses this question.
The climate of Oregon has undergone some serious changes since the awakening/

Actually, in many of the "place" sourcebooks, it mentions changed weather.
And the usual explanation is magic. In NA, in particular, they blame the
effects of the Great Ghost Dance, and the simultaneous eruption of three
volcanoes (even one volcano can affect world weather patterns).

/ Um... yes, they do. They've got a sufficently large statistical database to
/ allow them to make predictions along the lines of "There's an 85% chance
/ that we'll get rain tomorrow, and if we do, then the likely amount will be
/ so much". Just because the TV weatherman gives absolutes doesn't mean the
/ met guys issue it like that.

By "formula" I'm talking about formula for which the answer is always
accurate. 2+2=4. A^2+B^2=C^2. Etc.

Forecasting the weather is like counting cards at Blackjack. You know
what's in the deck, but you cannot predict with any certainty what the
next card will be.

When the TV weatherman says, "85% chance" he's translating what the met
guys told him, that under these conditions in the past it rained 85% of
the time. But the met guys don't *know* what's going to happen.

Meteorologists collect data. They know what current weather conditions
are. They know what's happened in the past. That's all they *know*.

/ Weather is an example of a chaotic system. Depending on how much detail you
/ want, you can get good approximations.

Right, approximations. But you can't predict with certainty what's going
to happen.

/ Personally, the weather forecast on Monday said that light rain was likely
/ on Friday (today). Guess what? It rained a bit on the way to work this
/ morning.

Last winter there was a day that the weather forecast said would be
nice. Guess what? We got a blizzard that dumped 3-4 feet of snow.

And then there's tornado warnings. Meteorologists have learned to
recognize conditions that produce tornadoes. But those conditions
don't always produce tornadoes. And sometimes tornadoes are spawned by
conditions that normally don't produce tornadoes.

Forecasting the weather is a complex guessing game. They may be pretty
close most of the time (a meteorologist could clean up at Vegas if he
put his mind to it :) but their accuracy is by no means guaranteed.

And then there's weather in SR, which is influenced by magic which no
one truely understands (not counting IEs and Dragons, and I'm doubtfull
that even they know with any certainty everything about magic).

In SR a weather forecast might read as follows, "Tomorrow the sun will
rise at 6:35 am and will set at 7:28 pm. And now to Fred for Sports."

:)

Yep. I love weather. And I thoroughly enjoyed the MET 265 Weather for

Seeing as I have no life and both Paranormal Animals of North America
(bow down and worship Ereskanti) AND PAN-Europe, I looked 'em all up for
ya.

Lesser Thunderbird (electrical storms)
Stormcrows (flock only)
Gorgon (nasty giant sea-critter, likes to make it rain)
Imperial Eagle
Storm Dolphin
Wild Hunt (lead huntsman only)

Ah ha! Little bugger tried to sneak past me...I guess I overlooked it,
assuming it was the same as a regular old forest spirit wearing a nifty
mask...

boiling acid rain you might get in the Sixth World... :).
