again, and so, my adoring fans, I come back to you. *grins*
No, in all honesty, I found that Shadowrun became a lot more palatable after
a long, long break. The images, the action, the world, gained that mystique
that I think left my mind a while back. Enjoyment came back, and so did I.
Unfortunatly, it seems FASA didn't like my timing, and decided on closing
its doors. Frankly, I'm relieved its going "relatively" well, and not the
clusterfuck sham that was ICE's closure.
And I would be the first one to refuse to blame the economical climate for
the downfall of FASA. Even during recessions in the early 1990s, gaming
companies continued to thrive, at least survive.
So what killed FASA? Look no further than Curcible and Vor. Sure, good
games, but plagued by poor distribution (you could barely find a decent rack
in Quebec), and poor following. You had to take on Warhammer 40k, and tell
players to forget their 1000-2000$ dollars invested, and try something new.
A move I decried when Vor came out, and it seems it came sadly true. I am
glad, though, that knowledgable hands have taken Shadowrun and Battletech.
I am sure Wizkid will do a splendid job with both lines, and I can only hope
the cast and crew of those lines will move along with them.
