The usage of smartlinks has irritated me for as long as I have played
this game.

It says in the rules that it relates the angle of the barrel with the
attacker's line of sight.
That would work very well in the case of lasers, I'm sure.
And it would be quit nice on most guns too.

But what about cannons or other heavy weapons, doesn't their aiming have
something to do with trajectories. Ofcourse the smartlink works very
nicelywithin close range , but you can fire that baby a kilometer away.
And what about scopes do they work with gunnery skill based weapons ?
Does a smartlink work well with projectile weapons such as bows ?

And how about a fixed position gun, mounted on a car ? Does the attacker
gain full advantage of the smartlink then ?
Can one smartlink a mounted gun ?

Questions, questions, questions.
Feel free to enlighten me with your wisdom.

Well, the smartlink hardware on or in the weapon does a lot of the work,
and probably has the appropriate firmware for the particular weapon,
including trajectory calculation. Yeah, some of it is bogus, like using a
smartlink on a bow, but it looks neat, and that's what counts in Shadowrun
:).

Yes, but it depends. If you're firing manually you can use a smartlink. If
you're rigging, you can, in theory, use a smartlink2 and get the bonuses.
