Where the HELL do people get the time everyday to write 8 messages a day,
and why don't they send just one big messages.
*WARNING*: This is not *my* question. This was a question posed
to me by a fellow Runner. I don't care but he seems to.

WELL... WHERE?

Well, in my case i) it's because I'm trying to avoid doing any real
work, like revision ;-(

and ii) it's to do with the header's so you know which subject is which, and
because you can set the list to send you all the messages in one big digest
form anyway (not that I know how to, ask for help), so it's your own problem.

Some of us are on-line for a living, and writing 8 messages in a day is
nothing, especially when I average over 300 pieces of mail on a daily
basis.

Because they're annoying to try to follow the thread through when you
merge a dozen different threads into a single massive mesasge.

It's a lot easier to read when there's only one or two topics per
message -- that way, we can see what the message is about in only the
first screenful, and hit delete if its boring.
Also, I type at sixty to eighty words per minute. *grin*

How about lots-of-short-messages-on-every-thread-despite-having-nothing
new-to-say are boring and nobody reads them?

Which is to say, one needn't comment on every current thread
just to be heard. Ya' know? Although, I really appreciate lots of short,
specific messages; they're easier to delete [muha-ha-ha...].

If you're not bound to lunch breaks, school hours, etc. (read: if you're
unemployed) you seem to find time to write lots of mail, especially if it's
about the only form of social life you have... At least for me, it is.
And tell him I don't dump it all into a big message because I don't feel
like the huge cut-&-paste effort that requires me to perform with this
second-rate mailer :)
