This is from a subscriber to the Mage list from White Wolf. He
is valid, if you have doubts. In my opinion, this is the correct way to
handle things. Makes you feel that there are some good guys out there,
doesn't it?

White Wolf, Inc. Electronic Press Release - For Immediate Posting

White Wolf's policy on the use of our intellectual property in posts on
the net is two-tiered.

The first tier concerns information that simulates conversation:
discussion, debate, even chat logs. Please feel free to discuss
Storyteller games in this matter without fear of reprisal.

The second tier refers to information that simulates White Wolf products:
things like the Highlander variant rules and variant Clans. Our policy on
these is that you indicate that they are not 'official' (to avoid
confusion) and, in general, require that you cite our copyright
information if you use game terms that are our copyright. If you are
unsure as to whether your article is within our guidelines, I will be
glad to review the article for the purpose of suggesting how you can fit
within them. They are very lenient, and I would rather you feel
comfortable about asking than to just go ahead and post them anyway.

Of course, in any case, we do not give such blanket permission to people
who are trying to package (or repackage) this information for the purpose
of selling it and making money off of it. If you *are* interested in
doing this, however, feel free to send a letter to Keith Winkler, our
Marketing Director at White Wolf, to request licensing information.

As a side-note, if you are interested in eventually submitting your new
Clans, variant rules, or whatever, you are advised that we do not
consider for publication articles that have been widely circulated on the
net.

Finally, we are happy that people enjoy talking about White Wolf projects
on the NET, and are happy to continue to support the Internet community.

...Sam

Disclaimer

These messages were posted a long time ago on a mailing list far, far away. The copyright to their contents probably lies with the original authors of the individual messages, but since they were published in an electronic forum that anyone could subscribe to, and the logs were available to subscribers and most likely non-subscribers as well, it's felt that re-publishing them here is a kind of public service.
