I 've seen many posts on here that deal with strategies against another
group.

most people say "GEEK THE MAGE!!!!"
others say "FRAG THE TROLL!!!!"
what i found most effective is the take out the fastest opposition.
my character is marginally fast 4d6 +20. I have more lead flying my
way then any mage. When the opposition of going on 30+ they are gonna
rip through your team. No mages are important to frag... cause if they
see you they hit ya. They usually get 3d6 +6. which come out to about
15. that mage can get two spells off... while the same from all heck
gets off 8 rounds. I'll take 2 resistence instead of the 8... thanks.

This is the reason why most corporations are trying to install fibre-optic
viewing systems in their buildings. Keeps the mages from being geeked to
quickly (replacing them is a bitch, and paying the severance cost is also
equally high).

There is another thing which I found useful as a GM to counter smoe of the
faster people in Keith's and mine gaming group from 2 years ago. I used and
area of effect Slow spell (this variant was an area of effect - which we
allow as a house rule - decrease reflexes III spell). Tore the people up
nicely. Besides, the three ninjas that were the source of this all had on
spell barriers (personal) that blocked out the spell quite nicely - the
ratting of the barrier was the same as the force of the spell (a 6).

I'd say those stats mark you as a munchie. I have desevedly had some of my chars called
munchies, and
they were no where near that fast.

It is easy ... "Frag 'em both!" :)

Well seriously or sort of anyway ...

The first one to go is the Mage ... You have your own Muscleboys to
fend of the troll and well when the any mage bites dust your mage
nuke the Trolls brain ... End of troll ... end of trouble ...

Fast =/= Munchkin! It sounds like (if you actually read his entire post
rather than just replying munchkin) they run a high powered game with lots
of people with high initiatives. That isn't munchkin either. It might be,
but without playing with them or hearing a lot more, I certainly can't
tell, how can you?

Also, your reply-to field is overriding the list.

Definitly kill the mage first. A smart mage will usually have a bullet
barrier locked or quickened and cast a spell barrier on his mundane
companions. If the mage is not attacked, it makes it much easier for him
to cast all sorts of support spells like Chaotic World, Ice Sheet or
really nasty Decrease Attribute spells (read what happens if an attribute
drops to zero) to hinder the opposition or various spells to help his
side.

not a munchie..... a long played character... I don't even have any new
cyberware from when i started. I just kept paying upkeep and increasing
my stats. I can tell ya about some real munchies if you want. I have
213 karma points and tell ya about everyone of my runs. munchie ---no
well disigned---maybe really lucky--- for sure

what about the sammie who's gonna toss lotsa lead. why worry about ice
under your feet when you got sonic projectiles shaving hairs. If you
get hit you gonna take average a moderate. That's if she doesn't have
and grenades that land on your nose. Mind you we haven't really gotten
into group vs group games. If we did we kept the mages to where they
could see and not be seen. Mind you be the time they went most of the
opposition was down.

You guys are missing the most CRITICAL part of any major RPG combat scenes,
and this tactic is universal across all genres, be they SF, fantasy, cyber-
punk, what have you.

Of course, I am speaking of the tactic of making sure the GM is:
a) well fed
b) slightly drunk
c) in a good mood (b) could be disasterous otherwise)
d) paid off
e) aware that you still have those photos of that particular weekend...

I say it doesn't make him a munchkin. Why? Because the only thing we know
of the character is his initiative. Granted, his other stats will probably
be high as well, but until you know of the way the character is played,
you can't call the player a munchkin IMHO.

That is why decrease Charisma -2 through to -4 are the best anti-Munchkin
weapons out there.

Well, once upon a time...last weekend to be exactly, I had a nice example
of this. My players wanted to have something very important from a certain
gang (The good ol' Halloweenies). Now in this group was Hoss (Some of you
might remember him: The ex-cyberzombie, muscle-troll). Hoss's got an ini
of 14+4d6 (which is pretty fast for a troll, don't you think?) and nailed
down ganger after ganger with his Ranger-X. Then, at phase 8 it was the
weenie-mage's turn. After a nice Mana-Bolt, Hoss lay on the ground: deadly
physical (actually, he wasn't the only one of the group with a deadly
wound).
So, who do you kill first? The Sammy that nearly killed the other guy, or
the mage that toasts your brain? Me, I always pack a set of neurostun-
grenades. Just to be sure.
