This reminds me... Has anyone created rules for 'Wild Magic'? (ie magic
that is not really controllable by the character, but they manifest every
now and then. a la Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever). That could be an
interesting opportunity for role-playing...

If no-one else expresses their interest, I'll whip something up...

How about something to eat? I'm starving! But seriously, the
only new magic rules I've seen were the rules for Dead Zones in NAGEE.
When you talk about "Wild Magic," do you mean a special effect that
occurs when a mage casts a spell and screws up (ala the rule of one)?
Or are you talking about Wild Magic ala AD&D (aaaahhh, it burns master)
where magic does weird stuff?

And if you want some help, I'm free (well, I charge before noon).

Nonononononono. Read Stephenson's "The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the
Unbeliever"... There the main character possesses a special gift of Wild
Magic (but he does not believe it, hence the name) which manifests itself
through his white gold wedding ring. The power is rather uncontrollable
(for him at least) and most of the time it just...happens. Even if he
does not want to kill, the power sometimes takes control of him and makes
him do things he does not want to do... Gradually he will however learn
to control it, but even then, the more control he has over it, the more
powerful it becomes... He must continuously wrestle against himself so
that he wouldn't use the force. Read the books, they're great.

Wild magic is pure, raw magic (much like we discussed earlier on this
list about Dragon Magic) with no preconceptions or forms. But it is also
something that a man (or woman) cannot control completely. It is sorta
like an Adept^2, very limited in power, but in that power, very formidable.

Hm... I think I already think how I'm gonna handle this. Give me a couple
of days...

Wee. Your noon = our 1800 hours (I think). After your noon, I won't be at
work anymore :) Thanks anyway, I might think of something.
