Okay...this could be asking for trouble but I've started wondering about
this. Mid-August I'll be moving to Colorado, and out there I'll have to be
starting a new gaming group. A couple of the people will be people who have
never played SR before but will probably like it. And I'm thinking of going
ahead and going for the gusto on this. Totally opposite of how I usually try
to run SR...

Starting characters can have any damn thing they want. Anything. BUT...it
will be explained and enforced that there will be certain rules. For
instance (and I don't know whether this is in the books or not) anything
heavier than an assault rifle has to be gyro-mounted or there will be heavy
recoil modifiers. Let's face it. These guns are big and heavy. Also, you
can't exactly walk down the street in full armor (security/military). And
I'm thinking that if I allow such a thing, there's going to have to be
background stories supporting ownership of such gear. (ratings will be no
higher than a 4 or maybe 6 on anything...just a common house rule) I'm
thinking at least a full page. Just a bio sketch, you know...

Am I insane or does this sound like a good idea?

Errrhhh...

The vanilla (official) rule is nothing superior to 6 when you create a
character (especially availability).

So forget about heavy military grade equipment.

But if you absolutely want your team to have that kind of gear, why not ?
You will just have to (is that english ?) deal with two legged panzers in
the streets.. :-)

::laughs:: Oh well there will be counterbalances. And there will be
penalties to be sure. I'm not going to let them just walk down the street
and they're going to HAVE to explain exactly what how and where they're
carrying.

Also I'll just beef up the opposition some. Bring the balance up. There's a
campaign I've got in mind that may require some heavy fraggin' gear
anyway... I know I'm probably inviting munchkins to the party but it will
cut down on the whining factor and maybe I can even show them up-front how
badly they do/don't want that kind of a campaign. I'll just have to find
ways to MAKE them think...
