Why does everyone seem to complain about crazed lunatics running around with
big guns. Us mages have to get buy with delayed actions and mirrors. DA's
are great to use. You frag theguy before he frags you. See what those SWAT
boys do. Everyone covers different positions. If they're entering, one guy
will open/ram the door and dive out of the way while the rest of the team
rush in and take up positions. FoF has a rule which allows you to move your
quickness in meters and get a DA. So who's worried about WR3?

Far from true. You mages have increased attributes, increased reaction
spells, barrier spells that take a nuke to knock down, elementals and
spirits out the yin/yang, etc... As for the crazed lunatics they detract
from the game itself. I as a gm had to take the time to satisfy the little
psycho's demands with 2 or 3 hrs of pointless bloodshed with the lunatic
demanding karma for mowing down pedestrians who never stood a chance. If the
junkie wants combat let him take on a bug hive alone. Attrition should
remove him/her as a factor after that, unless he/she is into the eternal
archetype syndrome.

Who's worried about W3? Well, not the GM, your right- supperior
numbers and delayd actions will take out a character with W3. I know- I
play one. I use all the tactics you refer to above, WITH the wired 3.
Between multiple combatants with held actions, the faster still goes
first. A slow guy with a held action will not cut it for room clearing
against cybered guards.

W3 also allows one person to create numerical superiority, or to stay
offensive until his friends get away, then bug out FAST. It has its
other uses:

<humor>
Detect invisibility, W3 version: Use your first 4 simple actions to
make perception tests. One will likely suceed.
Barrier, w3 version; get behind something
sheilding, w3; ditto
Combat centering, w3 version; spend simple actions aiming
</humor>

Real speed means MUCH more than being able to plug somebody before they
draw. It means you can adjust to "rapidly developing situations".

The "crazed lunatic with a big gun" is a minimal threat, and will not
survive long as a PC, compared to the "tactically brilliant cybered
warrior", even if both have identical skills, stats, and eqipment.

I imagine people complain about the "crazed lunatics" because they make
for boring play, and killing them off requires a situation overly
dangerous to the entire group. Not to mentionthe tension among the
PLAYERS.

We have one of these in my current group, and it has getting progressivly
worse. Last run he actually said when entering combat (of course) "Finally,
the good part, I've been waiting weeks for this!" At which myself and two
other players left the room. We've brought it up with the GM, but he's a
combat monster as well, so it hasn't been all that effective. And bringing
it up with the guilty player(s) generally gets a response of "But that's
haw my character would react/respond, and I'm not going to have him respond
differently just because it makes sense." We've even considered having
someone else run SR to get away from this. The GM has said that he needs to
take a few weeks off though, (class and all...) so Gregg has been running
CoC. This last week he actually had to go to the point of killing off most
of the characters as an object lesson. The problem being that allthough the
characters in COC may have learned a valuable lesson, I severly doubt that
the players did. The next portion that he plans on running (Escape from
Innsmouth) has a large portion of NPC's which, according to previous form,
will also likely have a high attrition rate. They're new characters may
very well be included in that attrition... hopefully somewhere along the
line they'll start to catch on to the idea that firepower and brute force
is no replacemenet for common sense and good roleplaying.
