already written rules and define a THIRD type of magic? While the witch
posesses many properties of the hermetic mage, simply a hermetic mage with
a geas doesn't quite cut it.
OK, how to build a witch:
First, you need a really big pot. (100 nuyen)
Second, you need a really big book of spells. Electronic doesn't cut it.
Must be in a tome, and written in Latin. (500 nuyen or more)
Third, you must know Latin. (See 2.) (4 intelligence points)
Fourth, you must be female (unless you're a wizzard). (Free)
Fifth, you must be able to summon BOTH elementals AND spirits. (This is
where the break-off from hermeticism begins.)
Sixth, you would have no spell-casting ability.
Seventh, you would have potions which you made in the privacy of your own
lab, which you bought. (100,000 nuyen + materials... can't rent the lab)
Now... effectiveness in combat. You would have to throw your fireball
potion at your victim. This requires a very large throwing skill and some
non-FASA throwing rules (so it doesn't land behind you:). Or, you can
summon a few spirits and have them do the work for you.
Sometime I may make up an availability chart on such things as bat's eyes
and lizard tails and anything else a witch would use.
I could go anywhere with this.
