OK,

This New York Times article is very interesting:
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/01/18/magazine/18SPORTS.html?pagewanted=1&th
This starkly showed how close we are to the future. What I mean is, the athletes that
shoot up, snort and ingest all manner of drugs, steroid-like supplements and other even
more unsavory chemicals are going to be obsolete, and may already be. This article claims
that some researchers into muscular dystrophy treatments have found a means of genetically
altering muscle tissue in order to make it more efficient in terms of oxygen consumption,
faster at contracting and relaxing, and even better at multiplying and "bulking
up." The fact that it is transmitted to the tissue by means of a tailored virus means
it only targets certain cells, in this case skeletal muscle. Therefore, the heart and
other non-skeletal muscles are not affected. Also, only a muscle biopsy will detect the
alterations, as no drugs are floating around in the patient's bloodstream. This could be
the beginning of bioware as we have it in the Shadowrun world, and the end of crude
steroid among pro athletes.

Looking to the future,

Mike

And yet another strange sign of Shadowrun becoming more present than future...

This article from LA Weekly details the Recording Industry of American Artists' attempts
at controlling illegal cpying of music. They now have squads of people that come in and
"confiscate" illegal copies of licensed music and movies. This is very
disturbing...
