Same here. Zahn's writing... for lack of a better word... sucked. I got
halfway through the second book and quit. It just wasn't interesting. By
far the best Star Wars book (though I haven't read them all) was The
Truce at Bakura. It had an interesting plot, interesting characters, the
writing was good, AND I didn't have to read three books to complete the
story.

Back to Shadowrun. Does anyone have a quick review of 2XS? I know Nigel
Findley wrote it, and I like his writing, but is the story worth spending
the time to read? It's one of the only SR books I haven't read and was
wondering what everyone else thought of it.

2XS is one of the best Shadowrun books, there is one element I didn't like,
but to tell you would be to ruin the story. Anyways, I am not fond of the
SR books, unfortunate, because I love the setting and genre. The only other
one I really found worth while enough to read past the first chapter or so
was Burning Bright, that one is IMHO the best of the SR books by far.

I haven't read it in about a year, but I remember enjoying it, I
would place it about 7 - 7.5 on a 10 point scale. A point is that if
you are planning to buy the next Shadowrun Novel comming out, I would
suggest you read 2XS as the character in that book also occurs in one
of the next two, the other novel contains Harliquin

Have to disagree with you there. I read Burning Bright because I wanted more
info on what happened to Chicago and I did get some nice ideas for places to
let the PCs visit, but apart from that... The writing was just crap, IMO,
the story was OK but on the whole I think the book could have been done a
_lot_ better.

Nice setup, pathetic ending. It starts as something inspired by Dashiel
Hammet and turns into a poor Lovecraftian immitation for no readilly
apparent reason.

Try the Han Solo trillogy by Brian Daley. It's recently been reprinted
by Del Rey as a single large volume. Aside from the stuff George Lucas
wrote himself, these are IMO the best Star Wars novels.

I do not read very often but when I did read this book I really enjoyed it.
It kept me in suspense throughout the whole book...I kept wanting to read
more even though I had to stop so I could eat and sleep. It is work like
2XS that will make me really miss Nigel Findley.

2XS is pretty good...it has quite a few nice betrayals that
really show how the Shadows work...I liked it.

Have you read the Lando books(also in one single volume by Del Ray) or the
collectoin of short stories that take place in Mos Esly Cantena
K.R.K.
