Now, the system would consist of one or more gyroscopes, an
electric motor and a power supply (battery). Upon powering up, I don't
think it would make A LOT of noise, but the only idea of the type and
loudness I can think of right off hand is when, in the movie Ghostbusters,
they powered up the backpacks (kinda a low rumbling, building for about 3
seconds and then fading away). It would have to be pretty quiet to hear
it. And you would have to know what you are listening for.

Depending on where it is mounted, either over or under, it takes up space
normally used by other equipment. If mounted under, it precludes the use
of a grenade launcher. If mounted on top, you cannot use imaging scopes
or a laser targeting system. Furthermore, they subtract their rating from
your initiative roll due to the fact they really don't want to move. Of
course, if you fire without the gyros running, the initiative penalty
doesn't apply, but you get no recoil nullification either.

Micro-gyros only have the ability to keep something more-or-less
parallel to their axis of rotation. The way to augment this is to allow
the gyro some sort of leverage to work with. Gyro mounts do this, providing
a fulcrum (lever principle, basic physics here: AUGH!!!!!) upon which to
worl its forces. The micro gyro you speak of here would only provide
negligable force against recoil, and would be easily overcome. The size
of the gyro needed to overcome the force of recoil is too big to ever be
referred to as "micro." If you truly wanted to use this idea, try mini
gyros line up parallel to the barrel, and radiating out in all possible
directions. Try adding 15 pounds to the weight of your firearm. Joy.
