Some thoughts...
1) In another Walter Jon Williams novel (eye of the whirlwind?), the
AI is a neural net....with actual brain cells as the net. Huge sheets
of them hooked together. Can THAT cast magic?

2) In one of the "Spellsinger" Novels by Alan Dean Foster, they have a
computer (U.S.Army) providing spells and tactics. Could an AI not
necessarily CAST spells, but CREATE them? You have the PC make a custom
spell, depending on what the circumstances are.
