They were initially concieved of to clear large tracts of land for the
breaching of defenses--and they proved to be quite adequate to the task. They
can effectively flatten barriers, clear mine fields, (The concussion shockwave
produced by these devices has sufficient force to detonate mines buried deep
in the ground.) and destroy any other obstructions in the area of the
detonation. They would, incidentally, also annihilate any troups or vehicles
in the vicinity, and it was in this role that they achieved their grisly
