Right. Body index only matters when checking for over-(whatever the
term is)

It is, and that's why cultured costs fewer body. Personally, add the
bioware & essence, and that's what you subtract from your essence. The
reason that body lowers only a mage's essence is simple: (Everybody
together now...) GAME Balance. If you could implant 12 points of bio-
ware into a metahuman mage, look at what would happen. You should lose
essence, if only for game balance. It disturbs the "field" of a person,
which is one of the better reasons for better loss. More "noise" in
your system.
