Murray;
You are indeed correct about the difference between damaging
manipulations. A resistance to elemental attacks affects only damaging
manipulations, and not combat spells that are element-based. This I _know_ is
correct, from Tom Dowd, and I even got the quote all right, this time.
We have a character in the group I was running who likes to think of
himself as a lightning mage. He has all the standard fire-based combat spells
routed to lightning instead. Anyway, when we went up against insect spirits,
we ran into that particular distinction problem, as they have a tendency to
resist elemental attacks. The controversy was settled when we adjourned, and
called Tom Dowd. It turns out that a combat spell by any other name still
pumps destructive energy into your aura, while a damaging manipulation does
damage sort of as a secondary effect. Therefore, I repeat, they are not the
same _types_ of damage.

The case you have just seen is real: the names of the persons involved have not
been changed because we WANT THEM TO BURN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
