Well first of all

I didn't get into the quickening argue until I wrote my
'little' summary there.

To be precise, I had deleted all but the first question
without even looking looking at them. That is why is missed all of those
TOM DOWD says things ( which I obviously won't follow)

More importantly I think I have been slightly misunderstood

the NIGHTFOX'S QUICKENING IS A SPELL arguement

I do not look at quickening as a spell. For one thing
because I have stated that 'spells don't effect spells'
this should be restated to 'SPELLS DO NOT EFFECT SPELLS
IN THE ASTRAL PLANE'

follow with me here, pg 110 GII SPELL DESIGN -how they work
a mage on the phys., to cast a spell, opens a channel from the
phys to the astral plane using his knowledge of spellcasting
and the formula of the spell resulting in a spell construct
on the astral plane. It then speeds from caster to target. All
this takes place instantaneously when the mage cast the spell.
When the spell reaches the target, it creates the effect
the mage desires by transferring astral energy into the physical
plane. Because this connects the aura of the caster directly to
the aura of his target, line of sight is required. Area spells
set up a web of energy that connects the caster and all his targets
into a single astal network and effects all viable targets within
an area of effect.
So therefore in a sustained spell, the aura of the caster
and the target continue to be connected by the spell because the
spell is still transferring the power and the caster can tell
it when to stop.
NO WHERE DOES IT SAY THAT SOMEONE COULD USE THIS CONNECTION OF
AURAS TO CAST A SPELL BACK AT THE CASTER. NOT EVEN RITUAL SORCERY.
OR USE IT TO FOCUS IN ON THE TARGET. NOR CAN THE SUSTAINING CASTER
BE USED TO GROUND A SPELL!!!!!!!!

When someone initiates he is awakened to the total power
of magic, he gains a greater knowledge and control over magic.
(street punk good at fighting goes to learn a martial art
and gains more knowledge and power because of this)
In a quickening the caster sustains the spell. Then he uses his
power to make it so that his aura is no longer needed to keep
up his end of the connection. In a sense he leaves some of his
aura behind ( the karma) to keep up his end.
the spell is still coming from the physical plane
entering the astral
and then exiting it again as an effect.

QUICKENING IS JUST A SUSTAINED SPELL WITH THE CASTER NO LONGER NEEDED!

you can not use it to ground a spell
if you say you can, then you could argue that a spell
could be grounded ANYTIME another spell is cast.
yes even possibly an instant on.

mages are not active when casting spells and neither is the target.

-- NIGHTFOX any questions????

***** I may lack a grasp on technology (who needs it??) but
I make up for it in my understanding of myself and magic *****
-Nightfox [ it helps in understanding magic to be intrinsically
magical ]
