You missed my point. I could care less how you want to interpet what the
combat pool is or isn't. The point is the modifications you've made make for
an extremely dangerous game. IMHO that's just not necessary.
I've been debating this point with one of the other players (and part-time GM)
in my group. As realilistic as making characters take damage mods on damage
resistance test, I can't get past the fact that FASA had to have deemed it just
too deadly to keep it in the rules. Pushing them in seriously degrades the
characters (or NPC for that matter) chance to survive.
As for rolling combat pool vs attacker's skill instead of power minus armor
I have two problems. First of all it's a needless complication. Secondly, it
makes the attacker's skill a too important factor in the attack. It means that
unskilled people cannot get lucky and blast that really powerful dude. It also
means that anyone with an attack skill of 6+ is basically assured to get a hit
on his target. It also means that characters with high body scores will live
alot longer than those with low body scores.
