Well it's strange how things turn out, I came into the labs today thinking
how exactly does shadowrun 2 deal with the combat pool for resisting damage etc.
And suprise a whole discussion has already been started on that subject.

Wow you guys must be pyschic ! :)

Ok, after reading through the posts I came up with an idea loosely based on
other ideas posted.

First off when resisting damage roll combat pool.

The target number is 12-(your oponents target number).

Now this could and probably should be tweaked a bit. But first consider what
this does: it allows for cover, it allows for the fact that the person firing
may be wounded, and most importantly it allows for distance. This last point
is important because someone shooting you at close range is gonna be incredibly
hard to dodge, whereas if the shot is coming from that building on the other
sider of the road (presuming you know there is someone there) is gonna be easier
to dodge. As to tweaking, the number could be tweaked 10-(your opponents TN)
is a possiblity. The other point is magnification, if someone at long range
has mag 3 and a smartgun link then their TN is still 2. So I would proably
say ignore any mag, because it is the distance that is important here.

So if you didn't follow that an example.

Blade is exchanging shots with a corp guard at the end of the corridor. The
guard has full cover due to a big plant growing at that end, while Blade only
has partial cover. Blade fires (Firearms 6, smartgun link, medium range, he
has optical mag 3, combat pool 9) using all his combat pool, TN 6 he gets
an average of 4 successes. Guard trys to dodge back round the wall. He has
a combat pool of 6. His target number is 12-(Blades TN ignoring optical mag)
which is 12-[5 (range) + 4 (full cover) - 2 (smartgun link)] = 5. Guard gets
an average of 2 succeses. If he had got 4 or more then he would have dodged
out of the way. As it is he now makes a body resistance test of (gun power)-
(ballistic armour), any succeses from this test add to the previous success
and can start to stage down. Of course if Blade was firing an assault cannon
then the chances are he won't get any succeses from his body test.

Well there ya go. It is more complicated but it's only a slight modification
to SII rules (as I remember them), and it does mean that someone with a high
combat pool can now dodge that assault cannon shot just as easy as the shot
from the streetline special.

Disscussions/comments/flames welcome.
