Physical Adepts and Shielding.

As Mr. Carter so correctly pointed out, Initiates get a number of
dice _for the purposes of shielding only_ equal to their grade. This
is completely separate from the magic pool and In-My-Egotistical-Opinion
means that the 'No magic pool for physical adepts' rule doesn't apply.

However, I think that forcing the physical adept to buy the ability
to use this pool is wrong. Now, before you start saying that it makes
a physical adept too powerful to get it for free, let me say a few
things.

1) A physical adept must be a grade 1 initiate to even *USE* the
shielding power. If you think he 'getting it for free' you're
GM is entirely too free with the Karma awards.

2) A level 1 initiated physical adept can only put one die
towards shielding. A level 1 initiated mage can typically use
seven or eight dice for shielding if he needs to. A physical
adept would have to reach 8th level to compare to this!

Here's an example. A magical friend o' mine is a grade 1 initiate.
He has a force three power focus, a sorcery skill of 6, and his strongest
spell is at force 5. He can throw that spell, with 5 dice from the pool,
offset all the drain (with the help of centering) and still put 6 dice
into shielding. It would take a grade 6 physical adept to match that.
This is best case of course, worst case can still only drop him to 1
die of shielding!

If you kick a Physical Adept when he's down,
he is going to hurt you when he gets back up.
