One of the other benefits of optical technology being explored is that you
could run a computer with more than two states (on or off). By varrying
the colour of the light pulse, you could achieve many state, thus being
able to store much more information into the same area.
Unfortuantely, I think many of the computer geeks in the worls (myself
included) will have a difficult time being able to deal with bits capable
of having more that two states :)
