]I remember reading in the El Paso Herald-Post (hi, guys!:) that the University
]of Texas (nonsense...A&M is THE University of Texas...accept no substitutes!!)
]at El Paso is supposed to be getting a grant to convert its computing system to
]entirely optical. I also remember hearing that it would be obsolete by the time
]it was up and running. However, I think it will be the first optical computer
]to be used for a college campus.

I was in on the project, so I'll tell you what it was really about. They
weren't putting in optical-based computers, they were putting in a fiber optic
cable network around campus for their telephones and datalines. Now, it took
them five years to get it done, but it is, as of last year late, done.
